Examining the VXVM initialization process

Each step of VXVM initialization maps to a start method. Careful analysis of each method ans the command it uses helps build up a picture of how VXVM starts. This is very much needed when undertaking fault analysis.

Understanding and Manipulating Plex States

Plex states are at the heart of volume manager volume fault analysis and fault correction. The course examines this tricky topic bringing the course member to a level of skill that allows manipulation of plex states. This study also allows the intelligent creation of large mirroed volumes.

Dynamic Multi-Pathing and Device discovery.

DMP software can complicate fault diagnosis. Gaining an understanding of this layer of the software can be most illuminating. Also DDL is fundamental to looking at device problems.

Volume Sets

The course provides the opportunity to create Volume Sets and check their impact on performance.

  • Separate filesystem data and metadata

Recommended Prerequisites

The course member should have a good general knowledge of Unix administration and should have attended our introductory Veritas Volume Manager course or have the equivalent skill level.
